Michelle Florence Studio

Michelle Florence Studio FB says only 101 characters to describe me. HA! That's complicated! I would rather let my work say it Color inspires me. Color impacts our lives.

Growing up, I was never satisfied with a Crayola box of 64 crayons--I needed more! Today, my art is filled with vibrant colors. I was influenced by greats such as M.C. Escher, Picasso, Kandinsky, and Monet. I have always created with a multitude of medias--watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, glass, fiber, ceramics, and digital. Whether it be with a brush or pen or mouse, I find my inspiration i

n the blank page in front of me. I have won multiple design and photography awards, been featured in magazine, and created two collector series for the Houston USPS. I know I've been on hiatus over the last few years busy with my family and my graphic design career. Now that the kid is grown, it's time to dust off my paintbrushes and let my color shine! Some artists paint majestic mountains.
I painted a shelf.
To be fair, it’s my shelf.

Sketchbooks, paint markers, fluorescent pigments, and about 47 unfinished ideas living together in one tiny corner of the studio.

I’ve always been fascinated by the little things people overlook. The objects we surround ourselves with tell stories if you slow down long enough to notice them.

It was a fun day around Houston — the Soaghetti Bowl, The Heights, Sawyer Yards, Montrose, University of St Thomas — all on the path to drop off the Church Ladies for the TxWCA “Through Her Eyes” exhibit coming to The Silos on June 6. Reception is June 13 from 5-7pm.

My art is getting around more than I am this summer.
Houston. Atlanta. San Antonio. Reno.

Meanwhile, I’m mostly at home arguing with paint and wondering where my favorite brush went and how did paint get on the ceiling.

Swipe through to see where my work is hanging this summer. If you’re there, stop by and take a selfie with it. Be sure to post and tag me.

THROUGH HER EYES

Throughout history in the Western world, women have struggled to have their viewpoints acknowledged and respected. Women artists have struggled to be seen in what is predominantly a men’s field, even today. After many generations women were beginning to have their viewpoints recognized in all areas of life. We are again at a difficult place, as it seems we are fighting for recognition and rights again...

Fresh hang at Gino’s for Memorial Day weekend. 🍕✨

Apparently my artwork has excellent taste because it is at Gino’s Italian Joint, the area’s Best Pizza & Italian Restaurant. Honest.

There’s just something right about colorful paintings hanging over red checkered tablecloths while pizza and spaghetti and meatball sandwiches and bags of zeppoles spill from the kitchen… YUMMMMM!!

My artwork is showing in San Antonio, Atlanta, Reno, and soon Houston… plus this very important pizza kingdom…Gino’s in Richmond.

Lately I’ve been painting the little things in my studio instead of the big picture.

Stacks of tape. Push pins. Tiny paintings. Weird little corners that somehow start feeling important when you stare at them long enough.

Not every square is exciting. Some are quiet. Some are messy. Some just hold the stuff that helps me make the work in the first place.

So this might be the beginning of something. Or maybe I’ve just spent too much time with my office supplies.

Fashionista is making friends in Atlanta. I don’t think she’s coming home. 🤞

My friend and coworker surprised me by stopping by Gallery Anderson Smith in Atlanta to see Fashionista in person… and immediately started matching the vibe. It looks great on both of them. 🩷 Thank you!!

I create the paintings.
Apparently they create their own fan club.
