My name is Nicole Lindblom (Colie is my nickname) and I am a nature photographer and artist from Minnesota. I have a BFA in Graphic Design and Photography from Minnesota State University in Mankato, and also really enjoy illustration and painting. For over 12 years I have been enthralled with the chase and pursuit of capturing that perfect image. Whether its on my travels around the world, or up a

There’s something magical about mornings on the North Shore 🌅✨
This was taken from the cliffs of Shovel Point in Tettegouche State Park — where the sunrise paints Lake Superior in shades of gold and lavender. A peaceful reminder that every day begins with beauty, if you rise early enough to see it. 💫

High Falls in Tettegouche State Park is one of the many beautiful waterfalls along Minnesota’s north shore. My husband and I have actually never visited this waterfall until this year, and the main trail to the falls was actually closed because of some new bridge construction. We ended up hiking from the fantasia trail head to get there and it was a pretty challenging hike along the way, but the reward of seeing these spectacular falls was well worth the climb up some steep rocks to get there.

While Lake Superior gets incredible sunrises, the sunsets are equally as amazing. This shot was taken outside of Bluefin Bay, right when the crescent 🌙 harvest moon decided to peek itself above the horizon. It made for an incredible sky! I was lucky to witness an capture this one!

Have you been to Minnesota’s Black Beach? Located in Silver bay this beautiful beach gets its color from the taconite that was once processed in the regions historic mining days. It’s one of the few beaches other than Hawaii that you can see black sand in the United States. We visited this fall just before sunset so it cast some beautiful shades of orange along the charcoal colored sand. This one is up and available for download in my Etsy shop!!

One of the most beautiful things by a about Voyageurs National Park are these pines sitting on small islands everywhere you look. When we took the boat into Namakan lake we passed by so many little islands. Around each corner there was a new view of pines, birch trees, secluded little bays and eagles. Completely quiet…no planes, no cars, no sirens, just complete silence other than the sound of birds chirping in the wind. It is a tranquil place and I’m already thinking about when I can go back.

Another great trip to Lake Kabetogama and Voyageurs national park 🏞️ The best part is being able to capture photos of the local wildlife and landscapes. It’s such an incredible place to go, and if you haven’t taken a trip you need to go. It’s the quintessential northern Minnesota and one of my favorite places on earth. This trip I was able to capture this beautiful and majestic eagle 🦅 perched up high up in a White Pine.

The dramatic gorges inside Zion National Park Utah are an other worldly experience. I took this photo in early spring on a hike to the Narrows. If you have never experienced this beauty, this is definitely worth the trip. I will never forget how this felt when walking through the virgin river seeing these massive vertical cliff faces. We hiked for about 7 hours total wading through heavy currents in the virgin river ( I got knocked over a few times ) and I felt like we had been to war and back on the way out, but it was worth it for this incredible experience. I really hope I get the opportunity to go back again.

One of my favorite places in the whole wide world is a little place called Hollow Rock Resort just outside of Grand Portage in Minnesota along the Canadian border. Here you feel like you are on the edge of the world, and the sky lights up with all sorts of magical events. We visited this resort in late winter/ early spring and stayed in cabin 5 which has the hollow rock right out your front door. Cabin 5 is quaint and adorable in every way with a small fireplace and a loft with a bedroom. It is everything a northern Minnesota cabin should be. Both peaceful and remote, this location has my heart and there is nothing like it. I have been all over the globe, and beautiful places like Hawaii and all of the wonderful national parks, but there is something about the North Shore of Minnesota that I can never get enough of. I love to travel up to the north shore at least a couple of times a year usually in the pursuit of northern lights, but on this occasion I was able to capture Hollow rock in its frozen state. Since Lake Superior is so huge, it feels like you are really at the edge of the ocean.
