6th Grade science class at Central Middle School, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Coach Evans, one of the coolest teachers you’d meet, was crying at his desk.

It was my first year not being homeschooled since 1st grade and everything still felt new and exciting when I went to school.

We were allowed to watch the news because everyone, teachers included, was in absolute shock.

By 2nd period, we knew we probably shouldn’t be watching this on TV but it was hard to turn it off. Most teachers did. Then the principal made it a rule. He prayed for our country over the announcement intercom. God bless Mr. Armstrong, that was a comforting moment.

The rest of the day is gone from my memory but I remember that feeling. Not knowing how to experience what was happening. Your eyes see it, your heart feels it but you just feel like someone pressed the pause button in your brain.

There’s a reason people say, “Never forget.”

((And no, I am not 100 years old. The school was though!))

Obsession with immediate perfection cannot cohabitate with growing creativity.

Creativity by nature is a balancing act of learning the rules and knowing when to break the rules. A balance of discipline and freedom.

You cannot grow in creativity without producing imperfection at some point. Be willing to keep going until you fail… but get up and keep trying.

It’s a fear of failure that kills creativity. Don’t be afraid to be bad at something NEW.

(And don’t use AI to solve all your creative problems 🤍)

My prayer is that your Senior year is a time of celebration, fun and you have the opportunity to pause every day and realize this is life now. It won’t ever be like this again.

For some that’s good— don’t wish it all away. Look for the beauty in the mundane.

For some, you may think these are the best days of your life. I can assure you… they are not but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy every little thing you can!

Senior year is a time that both can shape the rest of your life and simultaneously become a brief moment in the story of your life.

Believe them when they say you can be whoever you want to be, but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen right now. You’re just becoming you. 🫶🏼
