When I was a teenager, my mom gave me a camera. At the time, I was a pretty avid writer, and she intended the gift to be a means to bring my stories to life.
I didn't become a prolific film maker. I didn't use the gift as much as I wish honestly. But now, as I reflect on my blossoming career in event technology and production, I'm realizing she was just predicting a future I didn't know was coming.
My mom immigrated to the United States with the last name of Yonekawa. She was given opportunity through hardship, in a time when being Japanese in America wasn't the easiest. Our heritage has been a treasured part of my life that I've done a lot of work to reconnect with in recent years.
My mom also has always been an avid supporter of my artistic endeavors. She encouraged me to play music, to write, to dance, to sing - above all, to express myself.
It is with that spirit that I'm proud to announce Yonekawa Studios: a new digital production arm for Griffin DeWitt Designs. Yonekawa Studios is a small studio space in Northwest Portland for video and photo shoots, as well as hybrid meetings and video post-production work. It's a pallet for people looking to make some content, but unsure where to start. It's a space for the aspiring entrepreneur looking to hold virtual pitch meetings without the uneasiness of tech mishaps. It's a loudspeaker for voices who have been told to keep quiet. It's a helping hand to reinforce that your passions are important and to keep up the good work.
I'll have more updates with time. Some fun photos and video projects are coming. If you'd like, you're welcome to follow any of the socials below where I'll be posting some content to both highlight the capabilities of the studio as well as indulging my own nerdy self.
Thanks Mom, for the continued love and support. I wouldn't be here without you.
