Lindsey Aspelund Photography

Lindsey Aspelund Photography I'm a nature photographer located on the gorgeous Olympic Peninsula in Washington & am lucky enough to spend summers in Alaska Thanks!

I have always been fascinated with the natural world and love landscapes and critters. Everywhere I go outdoors I am inspired and I see beauty in the simple things. My photography reflects those simple joys in our lives. I was born and raised in Naknek, Alaska, and still return to Bristol Bay every summer to run my commercial set gillnet operation. I now live on the scenic Olympic Peninsula in Was

hington state. Please visit www.LindseyAspelundPhotography.com and check out the variety of prints available for purchase on many different materials- paper, canvas, metal- as well as greeting cards, coffee cups, mouse pads, etc!

While in the Skagit Valley last week I was lucky enough to stumble upon a field of swans - a field which actually had pullouts near it for parking! If you've driven around Skagit you know that's a rarity since most of it is farmland with deep ditches alongside the roads.

There were mostly Trumpeter swans but once I zoomed in I did find one Tundra swan in the mix! These are such beautiful big graceful birds.

Last week I went on a short birding adventure in Skagit Valley. I've been obsessed with Short Eared Owls ever since discovering them up in Bristol Bay a few years ago. These owls frequent the Skagit and are actually out during daylight, they're super fun to watch as they survey the fields for rodents.
I definitely pushed my camera and lens to their limits - I had major lens envy as I watched all the other photographers with their huge telephoto lenses. Watching the birds was a hoot too - no pun intended - with their amusing aerial tactics and expressions.
Here are a few of my captures.

Something a little different than my normal geographic range... I'm on the east coast! I'll be sharing photos of the birds and scenery I catch when I return home. For now, here's some cell phone photos from the saltmarsh near where I'm staying in South Carolina. I've already seen 9 bird lifers! A lifer is a bird I've never seen/identified before. Feeling pretty excited 🤩

I caught a neat sequence of photos a blue heron catching, shaking and gulping down a fish on Tuesday night. These birds are so fast! This one caught about 5 fish in two minutes.
