Bears have always held a special place in my heart, and are easily some of my favourite photographic subjects. Spending time with large numbers of them in Katmai NP a few summers back really illuminated their individual personalities and fishing styles. This impressive specimen liked to stand on hind legs and survey the river for salmon, while some snorkelled, others stood motionless and some aggressively chased the fish.
I’ve been fortunate enough to document and work in some of the planets wildest remaining places, often witnessing how much life depends on the richness of the sea. From the salmon forests of British Columbia, to the Antarctic peninsula, where marine mammals of all shapes and sizes feed during the summer months and penguins journey to breeding sites on land from their aquatic feeding grounds. Or even very close to home, where a large variety of species take advantage of the annual herring spawn.
It’s also estimated that half of the oxygen production on earth comes from the surface layer of our oceans that teem with photosynthetic plankton. We all depend on the health of our oceans for future survival! Check out the ongoing campaign by if you’d like to buy a print for the betterment of our seas and planet as a whole.
