RAYS RIDE October 26/27/2024
P&D Promotions, Pete Francini and Dianne Kanemoto are presenting and promoting the 2nd in California, AMA National Triumph Adventure Series Ride and the AMA National Beta Dual Sport Series Ride. Although not part of the National, Street bikes are welcome too. Registration for the AMA National will be conducted on line now through October 1st on P&D Promotions, Inc. website. A one day AMA Card is available by calling the AMA Join line at 800-262-5646. No on-site registration, but no one will be turned away. Don’t forget your AMA card. Street riders, your registration will be on site at Jack’s barn and you don’t need an AMA Card but if you have one please bring it. Each rider that rides the course to Morro Bay and back to Morgan Hill will earn 15 points toward the AMA District 36 belt buckle.
Please join us in this memorial ride to honor the legendary, Phil Ray. Phil Ray was a well-known California supporter of motorcycle events and riders including sponsorship of the San Jose Indoor, the Oakland Motorcycle Club’s Stoneyford Sheet Iron ride that is still running today, and many other events. He was the former owner of Modesto Honda and Modesto Harley Davidson and sponsored local and AMA National riders, Ricky Graham, Toby Jorgensen, Henry Wiles, Teddy Taylor and American Grand Prix road racer, John Kocinski.
This non-competitive ride will begin at 7:30 A.M. at Jack’s private barn ranch in Morgan Hill. Riders will receive a commemorative pin and T-shirt with a raffle ticket and have the opportunity to have a picture taken with a cut out of Phil Ray on his motorcycle and then proceed on the back roads to The Rock, a historical volcanic landmark and important navigational aid to mariners that last erupted millions of years ago and is the sanctuary home to the Peregrine Falcon in Morro Bay. The Rock, 576 feet tall, was discovered and named in 1542 by a Portuguese explorer, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and is currently protected as the Morro Rock State Preserve. Our course will take us on the back roads from Morgan Hill to Hiway 25 through the woods and farm land to the Wildhorse Café in King City, 50630 Mesa Verde Rd., where we will be stopping mid-way in our trip to break bread, bench race with our friends, meet new friends and fill our stomachs with their Bar B Q or whatever lunch you choose (not included in the registration fee). After lunch we will continue looping on the back roads by Hunter Ligget and ending in Morrow Bay at The Rock.

This is not a race! It’s two days to take a leisurely ride at your own pace. Bring a friend, make it a date, have some fun enjoying the scenery, fresh air, breaking bread, meeting new friends and riding! For the dual sport riders, or anyone looking for more challenge, you will have the opportunity to break off onto the Hero Section, a single track challenging experience on dirt. In Morro Bay we will gather to greet and meet from The Rock to the Best Western Tradewinds near by where we will do the raffle for some great donated gifts. For your convenience, we will have a transport set up at Jack’s barn in Morgan Hill to take your bags to Morro Bay and back to Morgan Hill. (Please arrive back at Morgan Hill by 6 pm Sunday). The Best Western Tradewinds at (805) 772-7376, Motel 6 (805) 979-9808, and the Rock View Inn (805) 772-1259 are all offering discounts if you tell them it’s for Ray’s Ride. The Rock View Inn is pet friendly, but please, pick up your pet’s p**p. When you arrive back in Morgan Hill don’t forget to pick up your picture for your memories.
Our goal in doing this event and setting up our new web site, www.pdpromotionsinc.com and Instagram, pdpromoInc, is to help keep motorcycle riding alive in California. Racing, riding and schmoozing, we want to see our friends have fun with each other on their bikes! Long term we want our web site and Instagram to be the source for you to find information and history about motorcycle people and events. We have been honored in our 35 years of being involved in motorcycling to meet and share time with the legends and heroes in our area and in our travels and we want to share it with you.
