From PNC Park to Allegheny Commons Park and the banks of the Ohio River, developers are breaking ground on projects that will reshape the North Shore for years — even decades — transforming office towers and warehouses into apartment buildings and maybe even bringing houseboats and a giant Ferris Wheel to a former industrial site.
On the banks of the Allegheny and Ohio rivers, the city is in full development mode.
Some of the largest projects promise to transform once-vacant land in an area that has, in the past two decades, steadily morphed into a retail, residential and office space hub.
Set to open next week, The Plaza at North Shore is across from the ballpark’s home plate entrance at the corner of West General Robinson Street and Mazeroski Way — what developer Herky Po***ck, who’s leading the project, called the heart of Pittsburgh’s “preeminent retail entertainment district.”
