it’s easy to share the highlights on social media. the world travels. the fun outings with friends. the beautiful weddings. the opulence and the luxury. the freedom of being your own boss.

but what’s not easy is sharing some things that I flopped with in the past, and others that I kinda need to work on still!!

just your daily reminder that social media isn’t always real, and it’s okay to feel sad or frustrated when scrolling through a constant stream of people’s best - and never their worst.

idk about your biggest flop but the $10k IRS bill still haunts me in my dreams. 🫪

adding here - the other main topic of discussion was the ethicality of posing moments that 💫 should💫 be captured candidly because it ruins the authenticity of the gallery. while I see and understand this point of view, a client request for a specific photo overrides my personal moral compass of authenticity within a gallery.

clients are paying top dollar for us to execute THEIR vision!! 👏

unless a client specifically asks me to avoid posing moments, there’s no reason to allow what I deem “correct” to take away photos that they would have otherwise loved to have and specifically ASKED me to capture.

I think there’s an important balance in the modern age of wedding photography to capture the client’s desires and still remain authentic and creative, and it’s not going to be the same at every wedding! posing an otherwise typically candid moment doesn’t take away from someone’s craft, it just means they might be doing their best to give the client what they asked for. 🤷‍♀️

Ardelle & Brandon at Victory North this past spring. 🤍

Their entire day was absolutely beautiful, but a moment that I’ll never forget was their private last dance. They chose “POV” by Ariana Grande, and Brandon explained to me after that he loves the song, because he wishes Ardelle could view herself the way he views her. Everyone at the wedding could truly feel the love between these two, and I’m honored we were there to witness and document it. 💫🤍
