"Summer Gold" I photographed this American Goldfinch while it perched on this blooming Hosta plant in our backyard in late June. The males spectacular summer colors indicate that it is in full breeding plumage. Here in Tennessee their breeding season falls in June thru July. During the breeding season their colors are more brilliant, and the black cap also identifies it as a male.

Captured from a bridge overlooking the Susquehanna River in Tunkhannock, PA, 'Untethered' presents a breathtaking scene. While driving, I spotted a hot air balloon approaching the river and quickly parked to capture the moment as it floated into view. This stunning piece would be a wonderful addition to any home or office space. Take advantage of Fine Art America's current sale, ending tonight at Midnight. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/untethered-jim-cook.html

Echoes of Elegance Caldas de Moledo, Portugal

Along the banks of Portugal's Douro Valley stands a reminder of a more glamorous era. This weathered historic building in Caldas de Moledo was part of a once-thriving thermal spa destination, where visitors came to enjoy the region's celebrated mineral waters.

Faded stonework, timeworn green doors, delicate iron balconies, and moss creeping along the rooflines tell a story of beauty slowly reclaimed by time. Framed by bare trees and surrounded by the terraced landscape of the Douro, the building retains a quiet dignity despite the years of neglect.

Caldas de Moledo flourished as a spa resort during the 19th and early 20th centuries, within the Alto Douro W**e Region, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape recognized for its centuries-old winemaking traditions.

Photographed while traveling through Portugal, this image captures an unexpected encounter with history a place where architectural elegance, faded grandeur, and the passage of time come together

"Seeing Iceland through a different lens. 📸 I captured the beautiful fishing village of Stykkishólmur using infrared photography. The IR spectrum turns the late-summer grass into a frosted wonderland, contrasting against the deep harbor waters. What do you think of this otherworldly view?" Some have thought the basalt cliff looks like an oncoming wave about to overtake the harbor and village.

"Steps to the Mountains, Amalfi Coast, Italy"
"Beyond the famous coastal vistas of Ravello lies a quiet labyrinth of stone and history. Every hidden staircase tells a story of generations who walked these mountain paths. I fell in love with the textures of this moss-covered stone, the rustic gated archway, and the dramatic mountain peaks peeking out in the distance. 🇮🇹✨ "

"Quiet Reclamation" An ethereal digital infrared photograph capturing a forgotten vintage automobile slowly being reclaimed by nature. Shot at the University of Tennessee Botanical Gardens in Knoxville, the infrared spectrum transforms the surrounding lush foliage into a glowing, snow-white canopy. The contrast between the organic, luminous textures of the leaves and the structured, weathered lines of the classic car creates a hauntingly beautiful, dreamlike scene that blurs the line between past and present.

"Those Who Dare" From my archives, this was a trip to Alaska. We were fortunate to view Denali several times as many who travel to it only a few get to observe it because of the mountains ability to create its own weather systems usually obscuring it. The climbing season lasts about 90 days from sometime in April through July depending on weather conditions. Approximately 1000 people will try to summit and only a fraction of those will make it to the top.
Denali is one of the "Seven Summits" the highest mountains on seven continents and in mountaineering is considered a major accomplishment for those who dare!.
