Type ME - EPISODE ONE: RYAN PARSONS
Type 1 diabetes doesn’t stop when the game starts.
For young athletes like Ryan Parsons, every practice, every game and every day comes with an extra layer most people never see: checking blood sugar, counting carbs, managing insulin, responding to highs and lows, and making hundreds of decisions just to stay in the game.
Type ME is an original short documentary series from JNT Creative, created to tell the stories of young athletes living and competing with Type 1 diabetes.
This project is personal.
JNT Creative’s founder, Nicki, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 12 years old; the same age Ryan was when we started this project. Type ME was born from a desire to tell the stories she wishes more people understood when she was growing up: what it means to be a kid, an athlete, a teammate and everything else you want to be while managing a disease that never takes a timeout.
Episode One introduces Ryan Parsons, a young athlete learning to navigate that balance while continuing to compete in the sports he loves.
Our hope is that Type ME helps people see the part of Type 1 diabetes that numbers and statistics can’t show.. the resilience, frustration, determination and constant decisions happening behind the scenes.
This is Ryan’s story.
And it’s only the beginning.
