𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒐𝒐𝒏!
Simple arithmetic isn't enough for the three-minute battle and the aftermath that won't let go. Seventeen and One is the true story of a family at war, a town in crisis, the men who rode away — and those who didn't.

𝐇𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠.

Tohua — sixty-one, Yaqui, last of his line — walks down from a thirty-year vigil in the Chiricahuas to honor a family he could not save. The mountain has used him up. His heart beats a broken rhythm. He is going home to die.

What he does not know is that a combat nurse in a Bisbee canyon hospital is about to feel his failing heart through her palm, and learn — without permission, without lineage, without ceremony — to listen to the world the way his grandfather taught him to listen.

Some things are not lost when the watcher dies. Some things are passed on through the wrong hands, in the wrong language, sixty years before the right blood arrives at the shelter door.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 is a Gothic Western reckoning with vigil and inheritance, with the cost of solitude and the strange grace of accidental kin. It stands alone. It also closes a four-book arc that began on the Sonora-Arizona borderlands a half-century before.
Available now in eBook, paperback, and hardcover.

I just published my latest book, "The Last Report". It's the 4th book in The Ridge Watcher series. As I was writing, I was really excited by the story, characters, everything. Then I started "Seventeen and One" and the research was crazy and the style very different. It was genuinely an amazing experience to watch it unfold. Now, as I'm writing "Legacy's Child", I am mapping chapters and scenes and watching the story take shape into something I never anticipated. The words flow, the characters evolve and I am caught in the middle writing it and reading it as I go. It is such a rush. All of that to say my favorite photography quote that just as easily applies to authors as well. When Ihe famous photographer Imogen Cunningham was asked about her favorite photograph that she had ever taken, she replied "The one I am going to take tomorrow." Thats it in a nutshell: every book is my favorite, while I am writing it -- because I am also living it.
