This week at the Media Lab: I got the opportunity to assist with teaching students ages 15-19 how to take analog photographs in ’s pinhole camera workshop. 📷🎞️

Fellow creative residency alum Kelli Anderson has made a whole host of interactive and educational pop-up books that feature everything from cameras, to spirographs, to planetariums. In this session, we exposed photosensitive paper to light for 10 minutes, which we developed in a darkroom using a homegrown solution of instant coffee grounds and washing soda. We then used to invert the negatives, and the class got to share and discuss their work at the end of the session. Mine turned out pretty cool! Pro tip for grown-ups: you can totally buy these books at too, teen or not.📚

I am so envious of the young New Yorkers who get to take part in these drop-in studio sessions at the Media Lab and the Open Arts Space at MoMA. I would have LOVED this as a kid. We have more exciting Media Lab programming in the works, so stay tuned 👀 and thank you to for creating a safe space to empower youth in art. 🎨👩🏻‍🎨
