An important reminder: your dog is always welcome just as they are. Wether they are shy, unsure, don't want to meet strangers, bark at new people - don't worry, we get it.

We always give your pups all of the time and space that they need. Some dogs we never pet or get close to, because respecting their needs is more important than us trying to pet your pup.

We have been guardians to pups who are dog reactive, people reactive and people selective. We've been parents to pups who had a bite history and would bark so loud when they saw new people - this doesn't mean that you and your dog don't deserve photos of your bond, it just means that we will respect their boundaries and make sure that they feel safe during our session.

You are always welcome to a muzzle. Sweet Captain here who we have been photographing for years brought his muzzle with him to help break the stigma around muzzles. 🫶

We’ve never had a small dog before, the smallest dog we had ever cared for was 65 lbs. So when we brought home Rusty, a 9-pound Chihuahua-Papillon mix, I knew two things: I had a lot to learn, and it was important that Rusty knew he had choices.

One of the first things we worked on was being picked up. We ask him “Uppies?” and that asks him if he wants to be picked up. And we have a separate cue, “Up” that means I’m picking you up right now, for safety, no choice involved. It took time. A lot of watching what he does to say “Yes!!” to opt in for “Uppies”. But now? I can clearly see when he’s asking to come up. And when I give him the safety cue, he gets ready and helps me out. Him knowing what to expect is what I wanted for him.��

We started working with Sara Miles at immediately. Not to teach him commands (fun fact: 7 months in, I still haven’t asked Rusty to sit), and not to control him, but to build a relationship with him and learn how to communicate with him. To understand what he liked, how he communicated, and to develop cues that help both of us know what is coming.��

Another one of my favorites that we worked on is communicating with Rusty when we are getting off of the couch. I noticed that he really struggled understanding when I was getting up and that he needed to move out of my lap, and sometimes even if he was just laying next to me, he would sink in to the hole that I left from getting up and it was jarring for him. So now I tell him, “I’m getting up” and he either moves or braces himself; this is much better for everybody!�

It’s the beginning of a new era ✨ You’ll be seeing us roll up to your session in a Toyota 4Runner now 😍 It’s a long overdue change that I’m sure many of you are surprised didn’t happen sooner after seeing our off-road adventures in our little 2WD sedan 😂

Today marks the 4th anniversary of my last day working for a corporate hospital and Evan’s last day working corporate sales jobs.
We’re also coming up on our 10 year anniversary of photographing dogs in Phoenix (where does the time go?!) 🌵 ☀️

Thank you to everyone who has been along for this journey, it has been so rewarding and seriously the best ever to get to know you and your pups 🫶

After Sasha passed it became painfully clear to me how much of my life I am spending on my phone 🫠 There is something about a big change in your life that can make you open your eyes and see things differently.

Here is my list of favorite ways to take breaks from my phone 🫶

1. Reading! Either a physical book or audiobook work really great for me. I find reading on my iPad very distracting 😂 Have you been introduced to the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman yet? I’m OBSESSED. It’s so good. Everyone should read these books, I truly believe it’s re-wiring my brain and they’re just really good.

2. Using an old point and shoot camera instead of my phone’s camera. Using this camera makes me intentional and I LOVE how imperfect the photos come out. Using this also helps me keep my phone out of my hands 👏🏼 I’m currently using a 2004 Konica Minolta Dimage G600 😍

3. Journaling. This journal goes everywhere that my phone would go. Do I have a question that I want to ask the internet? I write it down and google it later. Have a great idea? I write it down. Everything that I would normally use my phone for, I note in my journal and then when I’m ready to use my phone it all feels more intentional. I also keep a “remember when” journal for when I remember sweet memories or cute things that Sasha did, I note them there. It’s a way for me to remember her 🥹

4. Making bread. I never would have guessed that making sourdough would make me be creative and have fun! It’s so fun experimenting with baking and I can feel that is so good for my brain!

Your only job at your session is to show up and love on your dog. That’s it.

We’ve thought about everything else. Treats, long line leashes, pet wipes, hand wipes, bug spray, a full emergency kit, bottled water, dog bowls, a lint roller, tissues for the happy tears, and Evan on official p**p duty. 😂
