One of the biggest things I hear from people before a session is:
“We’re awkward.”
“I don’t know how to pose.”
“My boyfriend hates photos.”
“I’m not photogenic..”
But the truth is… posing is not your job or something you should be worrying about!
A good photographer should never expect you to magically know what to do in front of a camera. Most people are not models when they book a photographer they’re just interested in special photos that capture special memories.
Thats completely okay!!
Your photographer should be guiding you the entire time meaning they should be helping with movement, placement, prompts, angles, lighting, and creating an environment where you actually feel comfortable instead of being so hyper aware of how you’re posing/how you look.
When people feel awkward in photos, it’s usually because:
• they were left standing there with lack of direction
• they were told to “act natural” with no guidance on how to actually look more relaxed
• they felt judged or rushed
• the posing didn’t flatter their body or personality
• the photographer focused more on perfection than connection between the storytelling process- that’s exactly what photography is. Storytelling.
