Because sometimes the best photos aren’t the ones that are planned…

The moments in between the moments.

The people who forgot the camera was there. The private little glances. The grandparents laughing together. The deep breaths, the happy tears, the dance floor chaos, the hand squeezes, the hugs that lasted a little longer than expected.

6, 8, 10 the choice can be hard to make! (As if wedding planning isn’t stressful enough already.) I always say it’s best to work based off of your ceremony time and think of what you want captured. Would you rather have a ton of photos getting ready or would you rather have more dancing/party pics? If you’re doing an exit, such as sparklers or any kind of send off, you may want to have your photographer come later or at the tail end of that getting ready period.

6 hours is plenty for a small/intimate wedding or elopement. If your ceremony and reception are all in the same place and you don’t necessarily want photos of you and your friends getting ready or too many dancing photos this amount of time is perfect for you!

8 hours is perfect if you’re doing a first look and also if your ceremony and reception are in the same location. It’s enough for the tail end of getting ready, first look, ceremony and some epic dance floor photos! I mean we wanna see uncle Bob breaking it down am I right?!

If your heart is set on getting all of those Pinterest worthy photos you’ve admired for so long, getting ready, a first look (or not), ceremony and reception than 10 hours may be best for you. This can also be helpful if your wedding takes place in multiple locations or you have a location heavy list of places you’d like to take photos at. A ten hour package could also be for you if you are getting married at church with an earlier ceremony and there’s some decent travel time in between locations and you want some dancing photos too!

A first look isn’t really about the timeline. It’s about how you want your wedding day to feel.

Your wedding day goes by incredibly fast. From the moment you start getting ready there are people everywhere, emotions are high and before you know it you’re walking down the aisle.

From my perspective a first look gives you a chance to pause all of that for a few minutes.

It’s one of the only moments you’ll have all day where it’s just the two of you. No guests watching. No pressure. No expectations. Just a quiet moment to take a deep breath, see your person and remind yourselves what this day is really about.

For so many couples, the nerves melt away the second they see each other. The anxiety gets replaced with excitement and the rest of the day feels a little lighter. A little more present. A little (way) more fun.

One thing most people don’t realize is that seeing each other beforehand doesn’t make the ceremony any less emotional. In fact, it’s actually the opposite. Once the nerves are gone you’re able to fully soak in the ceremony and the emotions behind it instead of focusing on the anticipation and nerves.

A first look also changes the energy of the entire day. Instead of feeling like you’re constantly trying to find each other between events you get to experience the day together from the very beginning.

At the end of the day, there’s no right or wrong choice. But if you’re deciding whether a first look is right for you, don’t just think about the photos or the schedule. Not everything has to be about logistics!

Think about whether you’d love a quiet moment together before one of the biggest moments of your lives. A moment where you can truly feel excited!

barefoot, a little champagne, and zero idea what you’re doing in front of a camera… perfect

you do not need to know how to pose for your engagement session. like at all. most of my couples show up saying “we’re awkward” and leave saying “wait that was actually fun??”

this is what it’s supposed to feel like…running around a garden, clinking glasses, laying in the grass, just being together while i lightly guide you so it never feels forced.

nothing overly posed, nothing stiff. just you two, as you are, with a little direction so it photographs beautifully.

if you’ve been stressing about looking natural or not knowing what to do… i got you!

(honestly it should feel more like a date than a photoshoot)
