There is so much that goes into preparing for a professional video shoot! From coordinating schedules to planning shots and setting up equipment, there are many moving parts to keep track of on production day.

With so much to think about, it's easy to overlook something as simple as checking your memory card, but this small step can make a HUGE difference!

Before you start filming, always make sure your memory card has enough available storage for the footage you plan to capture. Long recording sessions can use up space faster than you might expect. Running out of storage in the middle of an important interview can interrupt your shoot and cause you to miss footage that might be difficult to recreate.

Taking a moment to check your available space helps keep production running smoothly without unnecessary interruptions. It's also a good idea to bring extra memory cards in case you need more storage. ✅

🎞️ Did you know these classic films helped change cinema forever?

October 27th is World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, making it the perfect time to look back at the films that helped shape the way movies are made today. Here are three influential films that left a lasting mark on the industry:

📽️ The Story of the Kelly Gang (1906): In the early days of cinema, most films lasted just 5 to 10 minutes. Often recognized as the world's first feature-length narrative film, this Australian production ran for approximately 60–70 minutes, helping establish a new standard for longer storytelling on screen. Unfortunately, most of the original film has been lost, with only about 20 minutes of footage surviving today.

⚓️ Battleship Potemkin (1925): Directed by Sergei Eisenstein, this silent film became famous for its revolutionary use of montage. The memorable Odessa Steps scene depicts marching soldiers, terrified faces, and people desperately trying to escape. By controlling the rhythm and sequence of these shots, Eisenstein builds suspense and makes the audience feel the emotional impact of violence. Last week, we discussed where to set up your camera when filming in your office. This week, we’re focusing on another important part of professional corporate video production: recording clear, high-quality audio.

🎙️ Dampen Echoes with Rugs and Blankets: Sound bounces off hard surfaces like tile floors, windows, and bare walls. Try filming in a room with carpeting or bringing in a rug to cover the hard flooring. You can also hang thick moving blankets on C-stands just outside the camera frame to help absorb sound reflections.

🔇 Minimize Noise by Turning Off Equipment: Your ears might tune out the hum of an air conditioner or fan, but your microphone can pick it up! If possible, turn off heating or AC systems during recording. Avoid filming near office kitchens and break rooms, where appliances can introduce unwanted background noise.

In last Thursday's blog, we shared tips for choosing the right space for your next corporate video production. If you missed it, here's a quick recap of a few things to keep in mind:

🎬 Think Beyond the Conference Room: The biggest room isn't necessarily the best filming location. You need open space for the equipment, crew, and talent.

☀️ Be Careful with Natural Lighting: Windows can seem like an easy lighting solution, but sunlight changes throughout the day. A room where you can control the light will give you a more consistent look.

🪑 Give Your Background Some Depth: Blank walls can make a shot feel flat. Some intentional elements like plants or furniture can create a more polished background without becoming distracting.

Be sure to always test your space before filming. A room can look great in person but look completely different on video. Check your framing, lighting, background, and audio before rolling.
