Smith (she/her) is a Philadelphia-based photographer and content creator. She uses as many tools at her disposal to challenge and disrupt the status quo. Her community-based artistic practice interrogates racism and classism in place making and civic identity formation; how neighborhood-level memories and values are shaped; and the ways in which the marginalization of people and ideas adversely af

fects American life and culture. Her photographs have been featured online, in print, and in galleries, museums and other community spaces here on the East Coast and in the Midwest, and are in a number of noteworthy private and public collections. Smith is a native of Chicago, Illinois, and is a proud alumna of Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and DeVry University's Keller Graduate School of Management. Serious inquires about photography commissions, arts/cultural digital content co-creation opportunities, speaking engagements, or purchasing her work are welcomed and encouraged and should be directed to her at tieshkasmith (at) gmail (dot) com.

Over the years, the Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival in Germantown has offered numerous opportunities to capture moments of Black motherhood in motion — protective, joyful, stylish, patient, watchful, loving, and deeply human.

Not posed. Not manufactured. Just real moments unfolding in community.

Documentary photography has taught me that mothers are often the emotional center of public gatherings. Even in celebration, they are still tending, organizing, carrying, encouraging, checking in, and making space for others to feel safe and seen.

This Mother’s Day reel is a visual thank-you to the women who do that work every single day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother figures. ❤️

At 9:56 am EDT this morning during the 111th commencement exercises for Georgia State University undergraduates, I watched my daughter walk the stage to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree.

I’m incredibly proud of her hard work, persistence, and determination.

If you’d like to celebrate her accomplishment, she has created an Amazon graduation gift registry here: http://bit.ly/4uTRRzd

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters:

I'm happy to share that I’ll be participating as a featured artist at Black Excellence in Action with Reef the Lost Cauze, a ticketed Black History Month kickoff event at The Fallser Club in Philadelphia.

đź—“ Sunday, February 1
⏰ 4:30–8:00 PM EST
📍 The Fallser Club
3721 Midvale Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19129 (East Falls)

As part of the evening, I’ll be reinstalling
Frames of Liberation: Selections from Germantown’s Juneteenth Festival Archive, a photographic series documenting the Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival in Germantown. The work centers Black vendors, performers, cultural celebration, civic engagement, and community resilience, highlighting how the Festival has grown over time while remaining rooted in its mission to honor Black excellence, freedom, and resistance.

I’ll also have copies of Compositions of Black Joy available during the event.

Black Excellence in Action launches a month of Black-led programming at The Fallser Club centered on Resistance, Pride, and Joy, uplifting local Black artists, businesses, and community organizations. The event is organized by community activist Nigel Ousey as his Senior Capstone project.

🎉 Exciting news! 🎉

Local graphic designer and illustrator Beth Miner and I had so much fun working together on the "Documenting the Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival" exhibit and Compositions of Black Joy that we've decided join forces to become Storyline Creatives, a new photography + design partnership. Together, we'll take on projects that honor and celebrate community, memory, and place.

Today, we'd love your help with something fun: Picking our official logo! Beth created five amazing logo options, and we're sharing the top three that we both felt were the strongest and most dynamic designs.

What do you think? Which one best represents this new venture? Let us know in the comments. Thanks for helping us tell our story visually! đź’›
