Diverse integration of Sounds, Soul, Spirit, Technique, Improvisation, Stories, AND Melodies that ain’t that obvious ..

And the past… now
That being said… it’s not that I don’t appreciate the past… it just that the Jazz community is stuck in it.. and this causes (for me) a sense of stagnation.. look.. listen .. cause the future is so bright … so vibrant with so much Optimism .. despite the swirl of negativism.

26 little Deaths is one of my favorite current pieces. So many elements .. the inevitable, stated stated joyfully.. Beautifully expressed like a delightful eulogy.. and the wondrous Carla Kihlstedt.. driving and singing and playing some superb string playin!!

Attached are pics from her February performance at Settlement… She’ll be appearing 3/16 at Haverford College… Music to Die for!!!!

All I need is for you to remain vigilant and focused this year.. This is the first step in ending this craziness.. MID TERM ELECTIONS!!

I will not complain I will not struggle .. i have been disappointed .. but while we find ourselveslost in the darkness- a light flickers. And the more diligent we are.. the Brighter that light will shine.

I know I know. .. stereotypically I’m late .. This event occurred Labor Day weekend. Pinned date set event… a great time had .. great music presented… a lotta love shown… but one thing … one thing that cannot be dismissed. Friendships are never a scheduled event, and this event was a celebration of friendships. That thing that didn’t required music or photos or connections .. I feel for most of the folks presented… did NOT require expertise in playing a piano or trumpet.

While I post these pics… let that sink in.

Tribute to one of the biggest influences in what I listen to, and the music that I love.
Parellel lives apart .. loving the sweet science and apparently rolling in the same circles in Manhattan at the end of the 20th century..

Got to listen to the him recently at Solar Myth during an Ars Nova Workshop production.

First of all .. I hope all of you are exploring all these wonderful records by the plethora of wondrous and very much alive Masters of this art called Jazz… and stepping out to check out some great live jazz music, wherever you are!!!

The Imani Records Jam session just closed out for 2024 led by the wonderful Marianne Solivan World Cafe Live.

Note.. Jazz is Jazz .. and it’s music note restricted by genre or personal taste. If you don’t like super out free improv.. that your taste.. but the s**t STILL JAZZ. It’s an ever expanding .. highly creative… limitlessly beautiful creatively perfect Art form.

Here’s a suggestion for 2025:
Put away your Trane Miles and Blakey..
And spend the year exploring the living who has
As much to offer than your old stand bys.

Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,

These are my thoughts I see greatness gathering.
And the beauty of this, is despite the pride and confidence bestowed by all of these folks musically - they have the power to be humble.
But the greatness shows through.
