The Oakland Museum of California is home to one of the oldest surviving pieces of tule elk history. In 1906, the future of the tule elk looked bleak. Fearing the species might disappear forever, these mounts were preserved and donated to the to ensure the animal’s legacy would live on. Today, they stand not as relics of extinction, but as reminders of one of California’s greatest conservation stories, and how far the tule elk have come.
