31 adoptable dogs photographed in 2 hours at Salt Lake County Animal Services this week. That's, uh, let me get my slide rule out, uh, about 3 minutes and 52 seconds per dog. This definitely would not happen without all of the help from the staff and volunteers who make these high volume photo sessions possible. And if you are looking to add a new member to your family, be sure to check out Salt Lake County and all of the other shelters and rescues in the area to find your perfect companion! Shelters and rescues see every type of dog you could imagine, and always have The Best Dog available for adoption (because, really, every dog is The Best Dog - even my little monster, adopted from SL Co 3 years ago!).

And yes, I really do know how to use a slide rule for multiplication and simple log functions. The complex stuff? That's what computers are for! 🤓 (Do I use a slide rule? Not really. But I have one, and I do know how to do simple stuff with it because it's so old school and cool!)

25 more adoptable doggies photographed at Salt Lake County Animal Services last week (I'm a little slow in posting them...) bringing me to a grand total of 96 for the year (already!) They've got a whole bunch of wonderful dogs waiting for you! Check them out online or in-person!

I am always quite pleased that my birthday and National Pet Day fall on the same day. Every year! 🎂 🐕 🎉

Seriously. How awesome is that? 😇 I am celebrating a "birthday weekend" (testing out some new hiking goodies), and will kick off this little cutie. I am 99.99% certain that this wee cutie has long since been adopted, but she is yet more evidence that with a little bit of effort and patience, you can find pretty much any pet you are looking for at shelters and rescues! (And yes, she is one of those "Doodle Dogs" of which I am always rather fond!)

I generally don't get political here because I believe that pets can bridge divides, even between very different world views. However, like many Americans, I have had enough. The government was divided into three EQUAL branches to prevent the concentration of power by a small group of individuals, so that our democracy can remain stable. I'm not a huge fan of my Utah Senators and Congressman, but Congress should be the ones drafting and passing bills for massive change, if that is what they truly feel the people want. The Executive branch steamrolling over the Constitution is not democracy, no matter where your polical views fall. Taxation without representation is not just an 18th century concept.

:: TALK TO THE PAW ::

A few weeks ago Dave Ward from Pictureline gave the Park City Photography Club an amazing hands-on tutorial on macro photography. I knew next to nothing about macro photography before the class, and while I am still very early in the experimentation phase, I'm having fun - and I learned a lot! A thousand thank you's to Dave, Pictureline, and the PC Photography Club for arranging an amazing evening! There is definitely a whole new world out there! (And yes, that Frito smell you sense is coming through your screen! 🤣 )

I've been remiss in posting my animal shelter photos, so here are the last two visits to the shelter, 21 dogs at the beginning of March, and 13 this past Wednesday, bringing me up for a grand total of 71 dogs for the year! The photos of adoptable dogs for the animal shelter is an important part of why I am a photographer. Yes, I love taking gorgeous photos of dogs in beautiful settings (who doesn't?), but being able to be a part of something bigger than myself, impacting the lives of the dogs, as well as the lives of the people who adopt the dogs (because, let's face it, every pet in your life has changed you in some way - sometimes small ways, sometimes huge ways) is amazing. We are all in this world together, and I'm always happy to be able to do something that makes my small corner of the world just a little bit better.

As always, thanks to everyone, staff, volunteers, and clients who support these efforts. You all help make the world a better place. ♥️ 🌎

As a kid I loved Raymond Chandler novels, and loved the Philip Marlowe tv series (series-es? there were several). And the visual of the detective at the desk with the light coming through the blinds? Classic. So, I've decided to re-create that. I just barely made my 'window blind' gobo this morning, and there is definitely some additional refinement that needs to happen, but I've been having fun. (And the girls love the snacks, so they are happy to model.)

19 adoptable dogs photographed last week at Salt Lake County Animal Services, bringing me to a total of 37 dogs for the year (hey, it's not even the middle of February!). As always, many thanks to the staff and volunteers who make these shoot happen, and well as thanks to everyone who supports my photography, enabling me to makes these shoots at the shelter special!

I'm 99% certain that by posting this, I'll never see the waters this still again! 😁 Just kidding! In the wee hours of the morning in summer it can get like this, and in winter, too, sometimes. It's just that I don't see it like this very often - and it was a great backdrop for this session! And while I'm sure this would have been a very cool landscape photograph, everything looks better with a dog in it! 🤣

And a few more of the beautiful Mari Jane from her tour of the Granary District. She checked out the Furniture Joint, and then saw Kosmo the Kosmoceratops, and my all-time favorite street art, the old camera on 400 West (that I am always makes me happy when I see it is still there)! Mari Jane is a woman about town, enjoying all the sights!

If you are looking for a wonderful dog, consider adopting Mari Jane. Since she's a senior, you'll have the opportunity to give her the best years of her life. Find out more about her at Salt Lake County Animal Services.
