I'm honored to share that my image and story was selected by Sony Alpha Female for the micro grant theme "Favorite Place." What a great way to start the weekend!

Here is the story I submitted:

"I was lucky to grow up visiting Yosemite National Park every year with my family. My grandparents started camping before they had children. It became a family vacation destination once children were in the picture. I have a few cherished film photographs that my Grandfather took of my Grandmother with her Aunties. They had snowball fights, visited Jeffrey Pine, and the Native American Village of the Ahwahneechee.

My parents made Yosemite our annual summer holiday which started when I was just a baby. As a young pre-teen, my love for photography blossomed in Yosemite Valley. I was always carrying around a film point and shoot camera. It was common for me to get up before sunrise to shoot long exposures of the Merced. I skipped dinners to shoot alpine glow on Half Dome.

My husband and I were excited to share Yosemite with our son last fall, when he was 14 months old. He loved throwing rocks into the Merced and watching the ripples in the water. He found joy in picking up leaves and playing in the dirt."

❄️ We woke up to find it snowed overnight. ❄️ I met my friend .cheah at Lower Yosemite falls and we had so much fun exploring an empty Yosemite valley.

These 3 images were shot the same day. The first at 9am, the second at 10am and the last at 4pm. It’s fascinating how drastically the weather changes in Yosemite Valley. We returned from a snowshoeing adventure and we’re surprised to find the snow melted from the trees!

Autumn Snowfall in Yosemite

We visited Yosemite in hopes to see fall colors, maybe even some snow! We found ourselves stuck in traffic and a snowstorm, so we parked and decided a walk would be nice. The swirling snow and accompanying low fog made for an extraordinary winter scene. It was a once in a life time experience to see the convergence of autumn and winter.

If you are looking for a special gift, check out my limited edition prints at www.michellejacquemet.com My annual sale begins today and runs through Dec 3rd. Use the code “SNOW23” to save 20% on anything in my store.

This image was recently published in the book “Magic in the Wilderness.” It is a beautiful compilation of images celebrating protected natural spaces photographed by 82 women photographers from the Women Capture Magic community. Thanks to the talented women who submitted their artwork and to Kristen Ryan, Megan Arndt & Amy Miller for curating and designing the book! You can purchase it on blurb here: https://www.blurb.com/b/11619444

I love camping in the fall. On this visit to the eastern Sierra it got down to 17* at night. Most of our drinking water was frozen when we woke for sunrise.

I shot with Nirav Thakor Photography on this afternoon. I’m so grateful for his invitation to join him! Swipe to see the same location without a sunburst. Which do you like best?

There are just 2 days left for my fine art sale. Be sure to check it out and get your orders in now at www.michellejacquemet.com

I was excited to check out the arch rock in Joshua Tree. The trail was hard to find so we had to follow people walking back.

On the walk back out I saw this beautiful view. We didn’t quite get what we came for but this gem was even better! Thanks to Jessica Morton-McCurdy for the whirlwind tour of Joshua Tree!

Please consider shopping with small businesses this weekend. You can help out by sharing posts to promote a business you love as well! Thank you for your love and support! Canvas, Metal & Wood Framed Prints can be purchased 20% off at www.michellejacquemet.com

One of my favorite beach adventures!

I was teasing Ansgar about carrying over a HUGE log for some foreground interest. He took my dare and this image is the result.

It was a beautiful drive into Yosemite Valley. At the entrance it started to lightly snow! As we came down in elevation, snow turned to rain. My priority for this trip was to catch Half Dome with fall colors. When we arrived, Half Dome was hidden behind a curtain of clouds and fog. At last, the rain took a brief pause and the clouds slowly parted enough to capture this moment of serene beauty.

I'm including a photo of Half Dome in one of its shyest moment.

I've visited this location for fall colors for the last 3 years. This year’s visit has been my favorite, as our timing was perfect. We caught the trees at their peak fall colors with fantastic conditions! Sometimes it takes several visits to get just the shot I’m hoping for. This was worth the wait and the persistence!

With the holidays fast approaching, please keep small businesses in mind while you begin your holiday shopping. I offer limited edition prints for sale on my website at www.michellejacquemet.com

Happy Halloween! 🎃👻 I thought I would share this photo with you that I took one spooky evening.

We had plans to photograph the Milky Way. It was clear all day, including at sunset. I texted and asked him to come shoot with me. As we ate dinner the marine layer moved in from the horizon. No problem, it's not too bad! As we drove south, it became apparent that the fog had come in.

Since we drove to this beach, we might as well see what it looked like. We didn't have fog photos from here. When we arrived, we found fishing boats just behind the rock. Perfect! We set up our tripods and took a few long exposures for fun. As we walked away I thought, "this would be great for a spooky Halloween shot!"

Last year I spent more time close to home, exploring and revisiting places that are in my hometown. I have shot at this location many times but haven't shared anything before. I love this spot for it's beauty and history.

How many of you knew that Pacifica was a huge part of bootlegging back in the day? In the 1920's, 24,000 cases of Whiskey were confiscated from the Mori Ranch, worth $2M. With inflation, that would be worth $30M today!
