On a recent trip to Silverton we got caught in a torrential rain and had to layover on the southside of Red Mountain Pass. I you know much about The Million Dollar Highway, Ruby Walls is deadly in these conditions. This is one of my favorite canyons in the area and Mother Nature didn’t dissapoint.

Crested Butte In Light and Shadow

Black and white photography strips away distraction. What’s left is form, texture, and story.

On a recent trip to Crested Butte, I wanted to see what this mountain town looks like without the color that usually defines it. The Elk Mountains rising in shadow, a barn standing against time, bighorn sheep moving across open slopes, the streets alive with their own rhythm — in black and white, these moments reveal a sharper truth.

I’ve published the full photo essay for paid subscribers on my Substack: Crested Butte In Light and Shadow. It’s a narrative set, weaving together the land, the wild, and the town.
