The Vermillion Flycatchers have been sneaking around the wetlands for the past few weeks and I was finally able to spot one of them for the first time last week. This female was bouncing throughout the vegetation by the long path and, though the subject is a bit far, I'm enjoying how the overall scene came out.

A nice stroll with the mid-morning sun brought lots of birds around to the boardwalk. This Boat-Tailed Grackle was hopping around the vegetation before jumping up to the railing and shaking off some water. Somehow the seemingly normal scene ended up looking like a whimsical snowy sunrise.

The red coloring on this American Coot's beak is such a deep, rich red that I never took time to really notice before. Such beautiful, yet simple coloring on these birds.

I don't know the last time I spotted a Mockingbird here, but on the chilliest morning so far this winter I noticed this beautiful bird camouflaging in the tree.

I can never refuse trying to catch a photo of the Palm Warblers, even if I already have hundreds of them at this point. I remember when I was young spending an afternoon chasing a Palm Warbler around the pool deck at home trying to photograph it with my super small first camera. Just a little fond memory of these birds from the very start of my photography passion is enough to sneak them into my camera a bit too often.

Here are some more photos of the Little Blue Heron I photographed while it was preening on the boardwalk recently. The head and beak really blend in beautifully so you almost have to search for the bright yellow eye hiding under the wing.

The Purple Gallinules are a popular bird to point out for valid reasons. The vibrant color on these birds can be absolutely stunning. This one is likely the most colorful one that I've photographed.

I don't think I've ever seen or photographed a Red-Bellied Cooter before, but it was hard to miss these bright red shells by the water.

It's not often that I get a bird photo with this kind of line-centered composition, but I do love the unique flavor that it brings.
