Positive Portraits for Patients

This is a dedicatory portrait Angelica Thomas just completed for Olga Torrejon, a heart cancer warrior who just passed away last week. The painting is based off of a picture of her taken in 1960. She was from Chile, had two sons and a daughter, loved to cook empanadas, enjoyed gardening and had a special connection with the beach. Thus, Angelica chose to depict her radiantly with the ocean behind her. Her grandson, Eric Mejia, described her as funny, demanding, loving, and motherly. This is a painful time for her family and this portrait stands as a memory of the legacy of love she has left behind.

Anthon Cooley, a retired pilot in the US Airforce, has traveled around the world, putting his life on the line for the American people. He suffers the severe effects of PTSD and other health issues. Though the horrors of war still haunt him, he finds solace in listening to music and telling his stories. He is an inspiration of resilience and courage.

Lee Holmes, my kind and spunky 92 year old neighbor, battles various health difficulties and excruciating back pain. She does not let it stop her from living her life with wit, class, and style, always wearing bright colors and telling stories about her life adventures. This is a picture of her at age 16. She is an inspiration to me because of her chipper attitude even when she is in pain.

I founded this organization to capture the grace and courage of patients battling cancer and other serious diseases through artwork.
