I missed last Sunday’s print giveaway… I knew this would be hard, but I’m back with another!
If anyone is new here, I’m giving one 8x10 print away every Sunday, and the only requirement is to comment something. Anything.
These prints are printed on 300gsm Moab textured rag paper, my favorite paper for printing currently, it’s thick, the detail is amazing, and the color comes through so clean and deep.
This print happens to be of a good friend that I happened to catch at a local rodeo. I was playing with camera settings and her run got called and I happened to finally nail the look I was trying to get!

It was there that I found myself between the legs of 5 wild horses that had just been running their hearts out.
It was there I said goodbye to my life.
It was there I put my life into the hands of 5 young women. And might I add 5 young women with broken arms, ankles, noses, and black eyes we covered up with makeup.
That’s whose hands I put my life into.
And I would do it again.
Today.

These photos were taken roughly about 5min after meeting Keily for the first time, the day had become a waiting game on UPS and we ran late just to make it all happen. So we met, didn’t have time to connect, but luckily made a connection during a very rushed late evening ranch photoshoot for .
It would be the next day that we would get her in her ballerina outfit, and tell the story of where she came from.
But the next time we would meet would be in a dry dusty desert, tears streaming down her face, too many big chaotic life things were piling up. And the next time we meet again another slew of chaotic life things have inevitably gone down for both of us.
And I’m guessing there won’t be time to connect until most of the day and the work is done, but that’s the exciting part you’ll have to come back next week for!

This quote might not make a whole lot of sense until you hear the first part.
It goes like this: “Start writing, no matter what.”
And now the faucet part makes sense doesn’t it?

This was such a good reminder for me to turn the tap on and just create.
Grab the camera and an idea and create.
And that’s when it is vital to have people like who are ready to create at the drop of a hat. So to speak. And people like who bring professional hairdressing skills to the table!
Maybe you’re a painter, or a writer, or maybe you draw, or take pictures, or build, or design, or cook, maybe you’re just a creative person like me and you need to be reminded to just turn the tap on and see what flows.
So here’s that reminder.
Creativity is one of humanities most beautiful aspects.
We can have brain things, and then go execute those brain things until actual real world tangible things are born.
That’s wild.
Probably my favorite thing about being a human.
I needed that. Maybe you did too.

This is be the first of hopefully many print giveaways!! And here’s how you can be the first to own one:
Comment.
That’s it.
Make it juicy if you will, but that’s all I require.
Comment anything, maybe the reason why you like the print being given away at the time, maybe you tag a friend (not needed), maybe you ate something last night and now you’re sick, maybe you got bucked off a horse and now you’re single and searching, things can get hairy.
But before you comment, do me the favor of flipping through the shots for context and story, and when you reach the end, if I impressed you in any way, could you hit the love button?
And then comment. That’s the only requirement.
Let me hear your internet voice.
And here’s the dream:
When prints have been sent and pictures hung, I’d like to be tagged in a story or post, save those to a highlight, and at the end of a year look back to see where all the art has found a home.
How rad would that be!

I don’t know how to say this other than to make a post and just, well, say it.
But first, I finally got lucky on a launch and got in on something I can never have enough of: mugs. Pirate mugs. I am stoked on these Pete!
I love tasty things.
Ok.
On to the thing.
I feel at times that an online presentation of my art and of my work isn’t enough. And so over the years I’ve learned a lot about the art of printing, and when I do that and I hold that final image in my hand, I feel like it’s finally complete. Everything else is a tease. The finale is the print. Not the new post or the blog or the website gallery. Those are all awesome.
But the print feels GOOD.
And so here’s what I really want to say:
I’m going to give one 8x10 print away every week for a year. At least, try very hard to make it work.
And this Sunday I will do my first.
No gimmicks. No 10 step process.
I want a comment on the post and that’s it. Say what you want, tag a friend, where’d you’d hang it, why you like it, anything, if it’s something you’d appreciate.
I will write you a note on the back and mail it to you.
So I guess that’s it, I want to share art in a real way.
And I hope somehow it adds to the world.
If you like this idea let me know, I’m curious what y’all think and if you already have a shot in mind you hope I’ll give away.

Love is one of those things that hides when you look for it, and shows up when you least expect it.
But one look at Drew’s eyes and you can tell she was drowning in it.
Darren had a quiet confidence that loudly screamed that he had won the lottery!
And for me?
All that means is my job is done, there is no job, I get to press shutter buttons and pretend I had something to do with the whole thing.
But the reality is that I’m deeply touched when I get to record special moments like these.
I might snap something that lives on with a couple for the rest of their lives.
That’s huge.
Hey?
Like that’s insane.
That’s special, and all the art in the world pales to a beautiful moment between two souls.
Too dramatic?
I don’t think so.
I think I need bigger words.
And more time…
Here’s to love, may it find its way to the young, to the old, and especially to the ones who can’t find it ❤️
