The next time you watch a movie, a fun challenge is to look out for whether the actors are lit with hard light or soft light.

HINT: look at the shadows! Keep an eye out for a hard line between light / shadow versus a blend or gradient between light and shadow.

Neither option is better than the other - it all comes down to 1) the mood you want to create and 2) your preference!
