Looking straight up into a tornado!

Yesterday marked 3 years since we chased a supercell in western Iowa that produced a weak tornado near the town of Deloit.

While the tornado was brief, we were able to get a rare look from directly underneath a tornado as it passed overhead!

Outrunning a tornado may seem safe but the risk is a lot higher than you may think.

On May 31, 2013 the largest tornado ever recorded struck many chasers including Mike Bettes and the Tornado Hunt crew as they were trying to race ahead of it. Fortunately they all survived but not without injury.

4 other chasers including the Twistex crew, sadly did not survive. This tornado changed the dynamic and highlighted the dangers of storm chasing.

This tornado got way too close to several homes like this one in southern Minnesota!

We had an extreme close range intercept with this tornado near Truman, Minnesota on April 13, 2026.

Thankfully it caused minimal damage and stayed over manly rural farmland!
