Cybersecurity learning with a little friendly competition! 🏆

Had such a fun time participating in SkillBit at SBS Converge!

With around 25 different challenges covering everything from SQL injection and social engineering to hands-on soldering, there was plenty to explore. I especially loved how beginner-friendly yet engaging the activities were. Even with a cybersecurity background, there was something new to learn!

And to make it even better, we managed to finish in first place! 🎉

A big shoutout to the SkillBit team for making cybersecurity learning so interactive and fun. Plus, I got to bring home a cool achievement coin and a little light-up bird I soldered myself! 🐦

A really meaningful surprise from FutureCon Omaha this week. 💛

I was recognized as an honorary attendee with an Award of Excellence for my continued dedication to advancing cybersecurity in the Greater Omaha area and my impact within the information security community.

I’m proud of this one.

I also came home thinking about something I heard during a conversation on cybersecurity education: we often talk about people as the weakest link in cybersecurity, but they’re also often the ones who notice when something doesn’t feel right and speak up.

Grateful for the recognition, the learning, and the opportunity to keep being part of Omaha’s cybersecurity community.

Yesterday, I heard something that has been on my mind ever since.

At Omaha STEM Ecosystem’s Connecting Pathways event, one of the discussions highlighted how differently AI is being approached in education. I was especially excited to hear that University of Nebraska at Omaha is introducing a Generative AI minor, which feels like a meaningful step toward preparing students for what’s ahead.

For so long, education has focused on preparing students for the workforce. But AI is changing the workplace faster than most curricula can evolve. At the same time, educators are trying to preserve the critical thinking skills that matter just as much.

Another idea that really stuck with me was that workplaces will play a major role in shaping AI education. As organizations adopt new technologies and redefine the skills they expect, education will inevitably have to adapt alongside them. That relationship has always existed, but AI is making that connection more visible than ever.

I don’t think the challenge is choosing between AI and critical thinking. I think it’s figuring out how to build both.

I’m curious to see how education and the workplace continue to shape each other over the next few years.
