Continuing with our Vendor Spotlight say hello to Susan Sampsel. Susan has the first case as you come in the door and has the best selection of Little Golden Books and Fiestaware.
1. Where are you from originally?
Oliver Springs.
2. Why did you decide to pursue being a showcase owner?
Our favorite antiques are smalls because a nice collection fits in a compact space. A showcase is the perfect size to highlight smaller treasures that would be lost in a booth, plus Little Golden Books fit right in.
3. Can you tell us more about your concept?
I love vintage children’s books. We have collected Little Golden Books for over 45 years and have hundreds of spares and duplicates. Books from the 1940’s-60’s are difficult to find, especially 1st editions in good-excellent condition and we have a good supply. The subject matter is varied and the illustrations are beautiful, so they appeal to almost everyone.
4. What three words would you use to describe your “brand”?
Little Golden Books!
5. What are your 3 favorite things to buy and collect?
Anything related to coal mining, Oil lamps & Children’s books and toys.
6. What is your favorite found item that no one knows about?
My Great-Grandmother’s rocking chair, just don’t tell the family!
7. What is your favorite thing to do for fun or as a hobby in your free time?
Stan enjoys bicycling & gardening and I love sewing & quilting, but our favorite pastime is watching the Grandkids play ball. Go Bobcats!
8. What is something about yourself that might surprise us?
Our personal goal is to give back more than we take.
