I was thumbing through pages in a National Geographic magazine when saw the story of what would be the last craftsman of Stradivarius violins. I was struck by how the photographer’s lighting captured the textures of wisdom in and around his eyes. I pulled out a piece of Bristol board paper and started sketching. That was 45 years ago this month.
