Ken Mendoza is an award-winning wedding and engagement photographer with over 100 recent International awards.

Ken specializes in dramatic wedding images where the couple blends elegantly with their environment, from Yosemite to San Francisco City Hall. Ken Mendoza is an International Award Winning Wedding and Landscape photographer with over 50 recent International Awards in top competitions such as Wedding Portrait photographers International (WPPI), Cosmos Awards, Wedding Portrait Photographers Europe (

WPE) and Asia Wedding & Portrait Photographers (AsiaWPA). Ken started his photography as an amateur landscape photographer, which led him to work on weddings is Yosemite National Park . Ken adapted classic landscape photography techniques to weddings and created a dramatic style that equally emphasizes the environment and the subjects. Serious study of off camera flash techniques and posing resulted in balanced style where the images show the subjects connection to nature as opposed to simply, “a landscape with a couple” . In addition to his outdoor wedding style, Ken has developed a dynamic indoor style where Bride’s “spin” their dresses showing the raw joy of a Bride and her dress on their wedding day. Ken also uses landscape techniques to make indoor spaces look dramatic and impactful. All of Ken’s wedding work and awards are with real couples, mostly on their wedding day, with no use of models. Ken uses photographic competition as a way to push his work to the next level so that his clients can benefit from actual competition, rather than to create showy pieces that are not possible within the constraints of a wedding day. Ken continues to pursue his love for landscape photography and currently is using COVID wedding “downtime” to explore the Sierra Nevada on multi-day backpacking trips with his trusty Sony A7RIV, 16-35GM, and 100-400 GM lenses. I was honored to host an evening of Image Critiques at at Professional Photographers of Santa Professional Photographers of Santa Clara Valley last night. We looked in detail at 24 images submitted by the talented South Bay Photographers (my old home). Thanks to President and friend Roberto Gonzalez Nueva Foto for the invite! The membership offered great questions throughout the evening, and we all benefited from the exchange of ideas and a general sense of camaraderie in that we all want to improve our photography, and the effort to continuously learn and challenge each other is a testament to our collective dedication to the craft.

Engaging with such a vibrant and enthusiastic community not only invigorates our love for photography but also strengthens our skills. It was truly inspiring to see the variety of styles and perspectives, and how close so many of the images were to perhaps receiving accolades in competition.

I'm already looking forward to future gatherings at perhaps other Professional Photographers of America affiliates. But I will always say "yes" to my Silicon Valley "brothers and sisters!"

Almost every couple wants a photo at “the tree” . I used the Sunspot app to plan for the perfect time and we incorporated it into the day’s schedule. I also used a to add a pop for drama. It is so satisfying to not have to rush to get the SHOT.

Light the Pose or Pose into the light! Here is a couple that I Instructed how to pose to the camera while still having fun. There was very strong backlight that I used to effect, but font lit them by a . When the situation is a moving like this is the key.

I am honored to be have been selected to join for the 2022 Wedding Category. I join 16 other Photographers across 6 categories to represent USA versus 40 other countries and their best photographers . The results will be revealed March 2022 in Rome.
