I don't normally do trends. In fact, to my detriment, I tend to avoid them like the plague.

But after seeing the newest Spider-Man, especially those end credits, then seeing my fellow filmmakers making their own local version of those end credits, the first thing I thought about was my Velocity Invitational footage. And with Monterey Car Week here, the timing felt right to revisit it.

Because I went back to basics on this one. No moving the camera up and down, side to side, in and out. I let the moment live and kept the camera from becoming a distraction. Living photographs. Lucky for me, that way of shooting is becoming more common these days.

Enjoy this one. It's rare that I join a trend willingly. Don't get used to it.

...does anyone do throwback Thursday anymore?

If you've been following me for a while, then you've seen my visual poems. This particular one was among the first I ever did.

Through a nervous demeanor, I somehow convinced my friend Tanya, who was visiting from France at the time, to agree to a quick photo/video shoot. When it came to editing it together, I knew I wanted to do a poem — I just didn't know which one. Then I found this one. I can't really remember where I came across it, but I remember liking it, and I couldn't find a single recording of anyone reading it. So I bit the bullet and read it myself.
It was a pretty vulnerable position to put myself in. Even though I've appeared in other videos on camera, this one was a little out of my comfort zone. Ultimately, it turned out really well.

I'm just now realizing I never posted the full edit to Instagram, because back in the olden days Instagram had a one-minute limit. So here's the full original version of How Could I Have Ever Doubted.

About 2 years ago I woke up with a massive back spasm. After working a shoot the day before (that I probably shouldn't have done) I should've stayed in bed. But there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to go to my first ever NASCAR race in Sonoma.

Limping around the paddock I was excited to see a new racing league and one as iconic as NASCAR. I didn't take many shots because my back was absolutely killing me but I was able to get one shot of the man himself. Kyle Busch.

I missed out on his championship runs in real time but looking at his resume and revisiting some of his highlights, he was one of the best to do it. I'm glad I was able to see him rip up the track at least one time. Rest well champ.
