Portrait of an accordion player

Creating portraits like this is what it’s all about for me, there’s something so powerful that takes place when you immortalize the face of another human being, their stories played out across their face. I’ve been photographing this gentleman for the past 9 years, but always at a distance while he played his accordion at the entrance of the , this year, in a quiet moment in between tunes, I introduced myself and asked if I could take his portrait, he happily agreed and we shared a brief chat discussing art, music, and his accordion playing.

One of my all time favorite festival photos from this weekend, as someone who admittedly wasn’t a big country or bluegrass fan before I started covering this magnificent event way back in 2016, I’ve found a deep love for the melodies and music of the banjo, and now, 9 years later, that unmistakeable twang of its strings just feels like home. To all my fellow photographers for the event, and all the countless hands that build up, and keep this festival going, I love you all.

I really need to get myself a banjo…

🎼Bridge spider in the skyyyyy

This little guy builds some seriously great webs, what a thing to watch, carefully calculated acrobatics to tie down anchor points and weave a web to just causally hang out “in the sky”, I’d like to think he’s chatting with me as he goes about his work, and in this imaginative world of quiet morning birdsong and sunrises he’s a gruff little frenchman named Françoís.
