Good Morning Y’all & Happy Sunday!

So… I’ve never done one of these before, but Fauquier County FINALLY added a dedicated “Pet Photography” category to the Best of Fauquier County voting list!

I may or may not have gently pestered the organizers about the fact that there are several incredibly talented pet photographers in this area who deserve their own category instead of being buried under every other photography genre. 😂

That said… seeing Boxers and Beer Pet Photography on the list honestly means a lot to me.

Voting is completely free! You just use your email to register your vote, but you do NOT have to sign up for anything afterward.

If my work has ever made you smile, laugh, cry, or love your dogs just a little harder, I would absolutely LOVE your vote and support. ❤️

I think it’s been about a month since I last posted… not just stories, but an actual post. Safe to say social media took a back seat for a bit. April was full, and I leaned hard into being present with my little family… zero regrets.

Quick recap because wow… it was a lot:

April kicked off strong helping out at Middleburg Humane Foundation. I delivered over 250 images of adoptable animals and donated a session (and a framed art piece) to their annual gala. I’m happy to say it was received well and will help even more animals moving forward, which makes every bit of effort worth it.

And speaking of effort… no one really talks about how much work goes into a “free” donation. Marketing materials, website updates, display pieces, logistics… it adds up quickly. Rewarding? Absolutely. Simple? Not even close.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I had a client reveal from a February session. A little later than usual, but life happens… and we roll with it.

Now we’re in May, and I’ve donated another session (and image box), this time to the Irish Water Spaniel Club of America specialty show this weekend. Thankfully I planned ahead with extra materials, but there’s always something to tweak.

I also squeezed in a model call with my friend Patty and her very handsome boy, Lucas. Worked on some people + pup posing… editing is still on the to-do list. Patty, I see you. It’s coming.

Still with me? Because we’re not done.

Bane has fully embraced his “distinguished gentleman” era at 9. He’s doing well, just needs a few adjustments… new pain management, supplements, and a very strict nap schedule (honestly, same).

And of course… print comp season. I’ve got two that I am entering in before the end of May, and if you know, you know… it’s a process.

Today, my personal Facebook memories showed me a video of Zev at just 15 weeks old. He was trying to “walk” my 11-year-old Boxer, Atticus, and it was honestly the sweetest thing.

Zev was in love with Atticus from day one. They were inseparable. Joined at the hip. True partners in crime. The joy they shared was something really special.

As much as I love that memory, it also brings a familiar ache. Losing Zev at just 6 years old still completely crushes me.

From the moment I picked him up at the airport, I knew he was something different. He was a true reflection of both his call name, Zev, and his registered name, Michael Fender Edda. He was my guardian, my protector, but more than anything, he saw me… and loved me unconditionally.

Even now, almost five years later, that loss still feels so raw.

I have thousands of images of him, and somehow… it still doesn’t feel like enough.

Hug the pets that we share our lives with a little tighter.

Happy Birthday Miss Georgia! She is such a rock star! Hannah Loonsk make sure she gets extra treats and bird time today! 🥰🥰

If this doesn't personify Miss Georgia here I don't know what does. I recently got to experience a hunt training session and all I can say is wow! I am not sure that I have ever run across a field so fast and so many times! Trying to meet Georgia as she brings her prize back to her owner was intense and fun!

I love seeing dogs who show also be able to perform the tasks they were inherently bred to do. Although, Vorka is confident that she was bred to be Queen of the Couch! 🤣😉 Watching Georgia with all her drive and intensity was so magical. This shot of her with her "prize" has been one of my favorites from the session. I just feel that it captures everything about her.

I will admit, I wasn't as excited as she was when she delivered me her "prize" instead of her trainer.... I am by zero means squeamish but um wet duck just isn't the best gift... Sorry Georgia 🤣😂

Yesterday I was out at Middleburg Humane Foundation and got to meet these sweet baby piggies. I even got piggy kisses, which is obviously the best thing since sliced bread! I was able to photograph 11 dogs, 4 horses and 2 piggies! Make sure to check out their page for pets available for adoption!
