“Who are you?”

And I realized how much harder that question becomes when you take the labels away.

Because who we are isn’t a surface-level answer. It’s what shaped us, what we notice, what we fear, what we love, what we’ve survived, and the thousand quiet things that make one person entirely different from another.

I think photography deserves the same question.

Not what kind of photography is this?
Editorial. Documentary. Fine art. Film. Digital.

Those are labels too.

The deeper question is: what is it trying to say?

What does this person notice? What do they find beautiful? What do they choose to preserve? What feeling lives underneath the image?

Two people can stand in the exact same place, photograph the exact same moment, and create something completely different.

Because photography, like people, was never meant to be understood by a label alone.

“A painting is a silent poetry, and poetry is a painting that speaks.” Plutarch

It’s easy to admire the details of a wedding the florals, the paper, the linens, the candlelight.

My mental dialogue:
What I find myself thinking about is how they got there.

Every detail is the result of a couple with a vision, a planner who brings it to life, and a team of artists who pour their individual talents into one shared goal. Florists, stationers, rental companies, designers, caterers, lighting teams… every piece matters.

When it all comes together, it becomes so much more than a wedding day.

It becomes a work of art.

Visual poetry.

As a wedding photographer, I have the privilege of documenting not only the emotions in this celebration, but the incredible collaboration behind it.
