‘'When gentle tides
go rolling by,
Along the salt sea strand
The colours blend
and roll as one
Together in the sand.
And often do the winds entwine
To send their distant call,
The quiet joys of brotherhood,
And love is lord of all.'
Song-The Quiet Joys Of Brotherhood by Richard Farina (Tune-My Lagan Love, Traditional)
Photo-Murlough Beach, Newcastle Ireland
A well traveled song. I learned it first as sung by Sandy Denny and Fairport Convention. Recently I heard this interesting version by Lady Maisery. As many have commented, it is inevitably about the disconnect many of us have from nature. Though I treasure the mini escapes to nature I make as a city dweller, this song is really about a much deeper connection to experience. It is truly a mesmerizing song. As to the photo I have shared a few versions of this here already, but it pays to revisit photos sometimes. Murlough is an incredible wide stretch of beach, and between the whitecaps of the waves, the far-reaching sand, the lone figure on the beach, and the Mountains Of Mourne in the distance it was a day to feel the allure of the song
