Her name is Camilla.

This was my very first staged portrait in tableau style.

I worked with Chris Lione, then Art Director at Newsweek, and together we photographed Camilla, from Argentina. At the time, I didn’t know it yet—but this image was the beginning of my love affair with portrait photography.
This image was a love letter to my passion for portraiture: storytelling, capturing essence of person.

Chris and I recently reconnected, and tonight I heard Phil Penman speak at SVA. When he said that life experience is essential, it hit me: this photograph carries mine.
