When it comes to posing, couples know how to pose without a camera in front of them. They know how to do a variety of different poses when there isn’t a camera in their face. An engagement photographer specializes in bringing out that natural ability that the couple has for posing when no one is paying attention to them.

The shutter drag effect is a fun way to capture reception photos and to highlight how lit 🔥 the dance floor was when the music was playing…

One of the things that wasn’t mentioned in the video was that you can either have your camera set to autofocus or manual when you capture these photos. I personally like to have my camera to set to autofocus.

Also, these settings that are on the video…it can change based on how dark your environment is so you have to do test shots before you actually start using the shutter drag effect.

As a native New Yorker and surprise proposal photographer, I never had the opportunity to ever go inside Gramercy Park let alone photograph a surprise proposal.

Capturing this proposal for Bradley and Addison was truly special. It was special in the sense that they absolutely had their privacy and I gave them there space because usually I photograph couples right away after the ring is on the finger but this time around I let the couple just walk around the park and soak in the moment.

One thing I learned about surprise proposal photography is that it’s more about the candid moments than it is about the moments that you direct. Those natural moments and natural reactions are so important to photograph. Those moments account for a lot when looking back at the proposal moment and the overall session.
