My former student, Eli Melendez, asked me to shoot his fight vs Javiel Ramos. I’ll do my usual three posts, but if you’d like to see all of my favorite shots from the night, click the link in my bio. If you access from a laptop, you will also see captions to better tell the story, in sequence. Also, while shooting sports photography (for my high school students, across all sports) was where I really formed the foundation for my photography, I wouldn’t be so proud that I couldn’t find someone way better than me to reach out to for advice. So thank you to for letting me pick your brain a little. I wanted to make sure I got photos Eli and his team would be happy with; I made a few mistakes (some of which are readily visible in the settings), but I hope I accomplished what I set out to do.

When it comes to my own photos, I am super slow with editing (like our trip to Costa Rica in July - remember how long it took me to post those? Of course you don’t, because it’s February and I still haven’t posted them!). So me posting anything from our trip to CA last week now is nothing short of amazing. For this time out, the focus is on the Golden Gate Bridge.

Give me a few more months and I’ll post some more trip photos.

Just as a technical note - 1/25 or so is about the slowest I can hand-hold a camera without having camera shake issues, so all but #4 were hand held. The fourth photo was a long exposure on a tripod, but atop a hill on a very windy day.

(2 of 3) ‘s design gave my four-eyed daughter four actual eyes, and it’s quite a nice look. Much nicer than the look my daughter gave me in the final frame, hahaha!

(1 of 3) ‘Tis the season to show some love to local artists and creators! Well, it’s always the season to do that, so please give a look to ‘s custom jewelry. I saw something she had done featuring sugar skulls and gave her a rough idea of something I’d like done for my daughter; she executed beautifully. The sun and star of these earrings is inspired by the Philippine flag, and the flower is the sampaguita. If you’re looking for a unique gift for a loved one, please reach out to her on IG!

Adah is a young actress who has had non-speaking roles in major motion pictures and TVshows. It was great meeting her and her mother, and being able to work with her on some headshots! I'm looking forward to seeing her career continue to grow in 2020.

In frame: .instigatrix

This is one of my favorite shots of the night, and luckily for me, it came right at the beginning. I saw what I had in camera, and decided to shoot primarily with my manual focus 85MM, which had been my steady go-to for some time. Recently, I lost a little confidence in my ability to use it...but this night remedied all that nonsense! By the way, .instigatrix was awesome as the night’s !

Met up with .carey by Hudson Yards to shoot. Just before we went our separate ways, I stopped her to take some shots on the platform. (I was inspired by a shot I saw on IG, but I can’t find it! If I do, I’ll link to it.) Pam and I got some really nice shots...considering this is one from the B-roll, I’d have to say I’m pretty happy with the results, overall.
