Easy little devignette with Lightroom masks. I did not bring a full studio flash setup to this shoot - it would have been overkill for the vibe we were going for. But in post I wanted to check and see what options I had for a brighter, more even light. Ultimately I went with the vignette on most of the photos because I was going for a more direct-flash, nostalgic disposable camera-type look. But it’s always useful to have tricks like this in your back pocket.

I loved this whole storyline with these adorable and committed members of the wedding party 😍 While editing through these I realized Goldie and Penny have pretty much aged out of flower girl territory and I don’t think they’ll ever be one! Ah well…I’ll content myself with photographing other adorable kids at weddings and hope their parents enjoy the photographed memories.

Woke up this morning to see a photo of mine published in Condé Nast Traveler España! It feels doubly special, first of all because it’s part of an article featuring ALL of Illuminare: European Women's Retreats’s fall 2026 retreats, and you all know how I feel about Amanda Donaho and her magiAmanda Donaho My mom is going on the Camino retreat this fall with her sister, and I know it is going to be a life-changing trip for her. I am always so grateful to be a part of the Illuminare magic, and it’s really cool to see it recognized on an international scale!

It’s also special to have this particular image featured because it’s almost the 20th anniversary of my first trip on the Camino de Santiago, and that corner of the world has always had a way of sneaking back into my life to make an impact. I studied abroad in Santiago de Compostela in 2006 and went back to walk the Camino in 2007 for my senior thesis with my dear friend Carol. We spent several days trekking through the Galician countryside long before it was, well, what it is today. No smart phones, no making reservations ahead of time, and absolutely no money. We would wake up at 4am, walk until we couldn’t, and hope that there was a bed wherever we landed (usually there wasn’t…you can see we slept one night on a school gym floor, and one night in a very questionable giant shelter for overflow pilgrims). It rained (a lot), we were sore and exhausted, but it felt amazing walking back into Santiago knowing we did the damn thing.
In 2023 Amanda took me along as her first photographer on an Illuminare trip, and it felt so right to be back in Spain, using my Spanish and documenting all of the beauty of her first Spain retreat. We spent one day walking a different Camino route than the one I walked in 2007, this time with TOMA & COE as our wonderfuTOMA & COEt was amazing to see the terrain difference, and to experience it almost 20 years later, a whole-ass-adult with a much nicer camera. I love that it’s a photo from the very end of that walk, once we made it to a well-earned meal at the end of the day, that made it into this publication.
