"A Carton of Newports", 2021, 32" x 6", archival pigment print, ed. 10. Now on (link below).
In this iteration of "We are Living in an Open Edition," I documented a few cartons worth of crushed, crumpled and contorted packs of various brands of ci******es. The gestures embedded in these forms are a proxy for contact with others during a conflicted time of required isolation and longing. Through a vicarious relationship with refuse, I can commune with the user, and through the product of this investigation, with the viewer. In recognition of the plight this species of trash represents, I am donating 10% of the proceeds of 'Carton of Newports' to the .'

New Dunkin' in-situ work on Artfare. D' 43-24-23, 2021, archival pigment print, 13" x19", ed. 13 (dozen plus one). Linky below.

I photograph various species of trash among other artifacts of contemporary life as proxies for the human gestures that create, crush, crumple, and convert these mechanically reproduced copies into uniques. Every Dunkin’ bag begins indistinguishable from another but one touch with a user renders each vessel quintessentially unique. I document the discarded bags on-site (with a camera I keep with me) and silhouette one aspect, the distressed logo form, to spotlight its transformation. Reunited as images in this investigation, our remains demonstrate the connected nature of its participants and present an opportunity to recalibrate our values.

I was so excited to have been selected as 1 of 2 visual artists along with 3 writers and a composer from a pool of over 7000 applicants for the August residency at The Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, NY. My studio in the barn looked more like a recycling center as I sorted through the hundreds of cans from about 2 years of collecting. My long-time fascination with the life of a copy as part of the iterative nature of objects and behaviors allowed me to see multiples, much in the way Marx saw commodities, as vessels of human gesture and an indication of a universal, shared experience.
