Don Freeman's Chrysanthemums series is inspired by Hokusai and the art of Japanese Woodblock printmaking.
​
​He shoots the flowers on Tri-X film with a Pentax 67 camera then prints them in the darkroom and adds tonal baths of blue, green and red dyes. This combination of analog and digital techniques further abstract the images until they resemble paintings.
​
