New work to share!

This one comes from Woven Treasures in Philadelphia, a family-owned rug and home decor business turning 40 this fall.

When I went to photograph Parviz and Maryam, the original plan was simple: find a good backdrop in the shop and build the portraits from there.
But pretty quickly it became clear that the real story was already sitting right in front of us.

Parviz with his rugs is something you instantly understand when you see it. He talks about them with genuine excitement and connection. You can tell these are not just products to him. He knows their history, where they came from, and why they matter.

Maryam brings that same care to the jewelry side of the business. She has a way of helping people find pieces that feel personal to them, not just visually beautiful.

What I loved most about spending time there was how natural everything felt. Nothing felt overly curated or performative. The rugs, textiles, and jewelry all carry stories and history, and Parviz and Maryam have spent 40 years building a business around sharing those things with people.

Woven Treasures feels less like a store and more like a place built over time through trust, taste, and relationships.

Photographing people who are deeply connected to what they do always changes the images.

I recently photographed a surgeon.

Before the camera came out, we spent time in conversation—understanding the shape of her life, the different worlds she moves between, and the parts of herself that don’t always get seen.

So when we arrived at the shoot, there was already a foundation.
A sense of direction. An arc to follow.
And then we held onto that structure lightly.

The day became a balance between intention and attention—knowing when to guide, and when to follow. It felt a lot like improvising: being present enough to respond, not control, and letting something real emerge in the space between people.

There’s a particular kind of presence that happens when someone isn’t trying to get it “right.”
When they trust the process enough to be seen in layers, not just in a single frame.

That’s where the work lives for me.
Not in constructing an image, but in creating the conditions for something more honest to surface.

Over the past few months, I worked with a consultant to thoughtfully re-edit and redesign my website.

It was less about changing who I am and more about clarifying what I do and how I serve.

Hi, I’m Katarina, a Philadelphia-based portrait photographer. I work with executives and leaders who want to show up with confidence and authenticity in how they’re seen.

I create professional portraits that feel natural, grounded, and aligned with who you actually are. My goal is to make the process seamless and even enjoyable, so you can focus on what you do best while I help you look like yourself on your best day.

Working with someone outside my own head helped me see patterns in my work more clearly. The throughline is empowerment. Presence. Helping people feel settled and strong in front of the camera.

I’m a photographer, a creative alchemist, a director of improv, and a former agency creative. All of that shapes how I guide a session and how I see people.
The new site feels simpler. Clearer. More honest.

If you’d like to take a look, here it is:

And if your portraits are due for a refresh, I would love to talk.

From our awesome collab with we captured gorgeous .caprisun who embodied a feeling of a vintage Italian model. I’m loving the strength in her gaze.

Are you an immigrant, first-generation American?
What does being American mean to you?

After the Immigrant ban, a fevered conversation with a dear friend, who is an immigrant, gave way to an outlet for our frustration and pain. Over one dinner, my friend, Marina Romashko (a kick-ass-get-things-done-and-gets-you-to-get-things-done chick), and I, put into motion the producing, shooting,...
