Manhattanhenge 2026 looked very different this year.

Despite cloudy weather, thousands of people still came out to witness one of New York City’s most iconic events, where the setting sun aligns perfectly with Manhattan’s street grid.

But there was one major change.

For years, photographers and spectators gathered in the middle of the crosstown streets to capture the perfect Manhattanhenge photo. This year, police actively moved people off the road, making it nearly impossible to recreate those iconic shots from the center of the avenue.

The only truly unobstructed “safe” viewing location was the Tudor City Overpass—and it quickly became overcrowded.

Is this the beginning of the end of Manhattanhenge as we know it?
