Neil Selkirk's Developer Tray, 2010.
What a history for this tray...Neil picked it up from Richard Avedon's darkroom in the early 1970's when he began to produce Diane Arbus' posthumous prints. Over the course of about 50 years, this tray processed the work of Richard Avedon , Diane Arbus and Neil Selkirk. #

Gowanus Canal Oil Slick, 2008.
The Gowanus Canal was designated a Superfund site in 2009 and work to clean it up began in 2013. Although it appears quiet in this photograph, in the 1920's the Gowanus Canal was the nation's busiest commercial canal with six million tons of cargo traveling through it annually.

Sally Mann's Developer Tray, 2011
My name is John Cyr and I am excited to take over to share some of my work this week. I am a proud member of the Society for Photographic Education and an Assistant Professor of Photographic Imaging at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood, NY. I had a wonderful time meeting colleagues and listening to exceptional panels and artist presentations at SUNY New Paltz for my first (of many to come!) Northeast chapter meeting at the start of October. Thank you to .fitz for the invitation to share my work this week!

This tray is one of 82 photographed for my Developer Trays. I photographed Sally’s 20 x 24 tray under natural light at her farm. Three of her dogs were playing with me while I was loading the film holders in to my view camera...quite an enjoyable distraction! She had about 15 trays for me to choose from for this project but the colors of this one hooked me in immediately.

Jim Megargee's Developer Tray, 2011. Currently on view at Elizabeth Houston Gallery. Master printer Jim Megargee taught me most of what I know about silver gelatin printing when I printed at MV Labs for 5 years. This tray has been used in the production of prints for photographers such as Annie Leibovitz, Jim Goldberg, Marilyn Bridges, Gordon Parks, Matthew Barney and many others.
