May: $17,000. 9 shoots. Not my biggest month — and I’m posting it anyway.

Because this is what a real hospitality photography business looks like. Some months are $33k. Some months are $17k. Both are real. Both are mine.

Here’s the breakdown:
→ 9 shoots total
→ Hotels, restaurants, and F&B clients
→ Average: $1,888 per shoot
→ Every single one booked through relationships I built months/ years ago

The thing about a slow month in this niche — it’s still $17,000 from doing work I love in some of the most beautiful spaces in the country.

The photographers who build sustainable businesses in hospitality aren’t the ones who only post their record months. They’re the ones who keep showing up, keep pitching, and keep delivering when the calendar gets quiet.

May was quiet. June will not be.

If you’re a photographer trying to break into hotels and restaurants — my shot list templates, pitch deck, and coaching 1-on-1’s are linked in my bio. This is the niche. The numbers are real. The path exists.

📍 Where are you shooting this month?

Peep the setup on the last slide 👀

Benefits of a minimal/compact setup:

•Faster setup (often the difference between getting the shot before the dish congeals and not).

•Less intimidating to staff & guests = more natural reactions, better lifestyle frames.

•Easy to reposition for variety from one tiny corner.
•Travel-friendly (carry-on legal, train-friendly, no assistant required).

•Forces better decision-making — you light intentionally instead of throwing watts at a problem.

•Photographs come out feeling more “real” and editorial because you’re working WITH the existing ambience, not steamrolling it.
