About: Guanabo Beach is 15 to 20 miles east of Havana... its a lovely wide white sand beach and must have been popular before the Revolution. The road just ended at the edge of the beach. As I was taking it in, I saw a large abandoned pre-revolution pink building at the edge of the beach in a grove of palms 60 or so meters from road. It must have been a large bar-restaurant, dance hall, and as I walked around this interior wall was visible from outside; I was intrigued because 'it', this painting seemed so intentional and yet there was no surviving pictorial element; although now that I think about it, based on the 2 primary colors blue and yellow, it was probably a simple trompe l'oeil of sand and sea in colorful squarish ‘frame’ painted on what was once a rose pink wall.

About: I found this odd image in an old, unchanged, heavily trafficked section of Ciudad del Rio, on a street where 18 wheelers park. Most street art is short lived, but this is high up on the wall, and as of the last time I passed by was still there 5+ years later. Working title: there's an alien outside my window

About: I started photographing surfaces in the street in earnest in early 2002 only in B&W; sometime in the spring, I decided I to start shooting color. I found this in the summer of '02 on the edge of Chinatown on the side of a panel van, as is... the working title is Dragonfly.

About: I caught a split-second glimpse of this image and others on a rough-hewn wall behind a bus-stop on a major avenue in Medellin. A few months later and was relieved to find they were still there. This one has an imposing and sculptural presense; the image was made on film with a 4x5 format camera.

About: I found this image in EL Centro, downtown Medellin, not far from the Hospital metro stop. It was on a rough-hewn wall in a backstreet park popular with young people hanging out. The image was at the center of a storm of graffiti on all sides; my workig title is Cyclone.

About: I found this image inside the 30th Street Canal. It is immense, 10 by 30 ft private, surrealist mural (and it's just the right half of the complete whole). There are three black helicopters in the upper left corner; my working title is: Anxious Crab Scampers after sighting Black Heliocopters.

About: I found this image in Medellin's 30th Street Canal. There was a series of 4 of them side by side all in the same palette.
Finding the right size for a print is part of the process; what size does 'it' want to be? This one clearly wanted to be intimate, to invite the viewer to enter its space and come in close. My working title is 'On a green field...'
