Port Saint Jean De Luz is also known for its fishing, formerly whaling and cod fishing and now focusing more on sardines and tuna. There are numerous trawlers in and around the port, which drag nets through the water to catch fish. These trawlers draw the public, who often watch as the fishermen come into port and sell their fresh catches on shore.

Port Saint-Jean-de-Luz is located on the Atlantic coast of France, mere miles from the Spanish border. This busy area has seen a lot of history through the years - the marriage of Louis XIV and Maria Theresa took place in its church in 1660, it served as an important port during the Peninsular War in the early 1800s, and it became a very popular high society destination as a beachside resort town in the 1900s.

The Port of Sain-Jean-de-Luz was seen on a tour of the Basque area of France and Spain. The Basque, Catalan, and Galician cultures all have unique cultural heritage and history in this area, which we will dive into this week.

The harbor is well protected from the ocean by sea walls, which makes it a popular mooring location for boaters sailng along the Basque Coast of Northern Spain.

A look inside the chapel at Monasterio Benedictino de San Salvador del Monte Irago in Le贸n. This monastery was built in the 12th century, and the exposed stone and arch ceiling transports you back in time while inside. It is viewed as a calm space on the Camino to connect with others and/or attend a service if desired.

I loved this little spot we discovered during our trip down the camink. These homes are located in Santa Catalina De Somoza, one of many cities located along El Camino de Santiago. The area is named for the church around which the houses were built. A lovely and quiet part of the walk as we made our way to Le贸n.

In most cathedrals, there would be a peaked roof line above the domes, but the Catedral de la Encarnaci贸n de M谩laga doesn't have those - hence being "unfinished". The domes are exposed to the elements, but M谩laga gets very little rainfall. The city gets less than 21 inches of rain per year, peaking at approximately 4 inches in November and December. No rain damage, no rush to complete the domes!

Part 1 of our view of M谩laga from the rooftop of Catedral de la Encarnaci贸n de M谩laga. The cathedral temple opened in 1768 for worship, though there is history dating back to the 15th century. As we explore the upcoming images, we'll also dive into its architecture, how the construction of the cathedral is technically "unfinished", and why.

One last autumn picture from the garden. Spain in the fall is so lovely, and I definitely recommend checking out the botanical garden if you ever travel to Madrid. If not, finding the beauty in nature is as easy as taking a stroll through your local park or favorite hiking spot!

In keeping with our festive fall/winter spirit, I'm sharing a holly plant we saw during our walk through the botanical garden.

The Real Jardin Botanico was founded in 1755 and moved to its current location in 1774. The garden is 20 acres and boasts approximately 90,000 plants/flowers and 1,500 trees within its 7 outdoor sections and 5 greenhouses. The greenhouses allow them to cultivate plants that are not suited to the climate in Spain. It is definitely large enough to spend a day enjoying all the natural beauty it offers.
