I’ve always wanted to capture the rawness of the old market of Santa Bárbara de Samaná — the town where I was born and raised.
As a kid, I used to walk these aisles with my dad to buy groceries. The smell of fresh fish, the colors of the fruits, the voices of the vendors… it’s all part of my childhood. Coming back now with a camera feels like stepping into a memory — but this time in a cinematic way. Organic food of all kinds, sold by families who’ve been here for generations… that’s the true magic of this place.

Founded in 1756 by settlers from the Canary Islands, Santa Bárbara became a crossroads of cultures and stories — and this old market is still one of its beating hearts. Raw, real, and full of soul.

Siempre quise capturar la esencia cruda del viejo mercado de Santa Bárbara de Samaná — el pueblo donde nací y me crié.
Cuando niño caminaba por estos pasillos con mi papá haciendo la compra. El olor a pescado fresco, los colores de las frutas, las voces de los vendedores… todo eso forma parte de mi infancia. Volver ahora con una cámara es como regresar a esos recuerdos, pero de una manera cinematográfica. Comida orgánica de todo tipo, vendida por familias que han estado aquí por generaciones… esa es la magia real de este lugar.

Fundado en 1756 por colonos de las Islas Canarias, Santa Bárbara siempre ha sido un cruce de culturas e historias — y este mercado sigue siendo uno de sus corazones más vivos. Crudo, real y lleno de alma.
